Home remedies for Split ends

The term split ends refers to the splitting or fraying of the hair shaft due to excessive heat, dryness, thermal, mechanical and chemical stress. The condition is medically called trichoptilosis.

The most simple and effective way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off. But trimming your hair is not always the preferred solution, especially when you are trying to grow your hair long. Well, the good news is that now there is no need to trim your hair. Here are the few home remedies which will help you say goodbye to the nasty split ends in minimum time. Here are the top home remedies for split ends.

1. Egg Mask

Eggs are rich in protein and source of essential fatty acids that help treat split ends. Also, eggs will make your hair smoother, untangled, healthier and enhance resistance to breakage.
Whisk an egg yolk with two and three tablespoons of olive oil and one tablespoon of honey for the ultimate conditioning hair mask. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash it off with a mild shampoo and cold water.

2. Hot Oil Deep Conditioner

Deep conditioning with hot oils is one of the oldest and most proven home remedies for split ends. It help to restore moisture.
Slightly heat some olive oil or coconut oil or almond oil or castor oil in a microwave for about 15 seconds. Gently massage it into your hair and scalp. Leave it on for at least 45 minutes to an hour and wash it off with lukewarm water and mild shampoo.
Repeat at least once a week or more often.

3. Mayonnaise

One of the most foolproof remedies for split ends, dry hair and dandruff. nourishes your hair, prevents split ends, and provides a soft feel, healthy and shiny look.
Wet and towel dry your hair. Work one-half cup of mayonnaise into your hair (quantity depends upon hair length).Leave it on for at least 20-25 minutes. Rinse it out and shampoo your hair. Repeat once or twice a week.
Note: You hair may smell bad for days after using mayonnaise.

4. Beer

Beer works as an excellent remedy for damaged hair by supplying protein and sugar to the damaged hair follicles. It also works as an excellent conditioner and adds shine and volume to your hair.
Shampoo your hair. Pour some flat beer in a small spray bottle. Spray it over the mid- and end-sections of your damp hair. Let it sit for two to three minutes. You need not rinse it out. Do this once a week.
Note: The beer smell usually goes away after a while when your hair dries.
